Projector health¶
See what each projector reports about itself — power state, lamp hours and faults — and drive power, input and shutter from the same place.
This needs network-controllable projectors
Everything on this page depends on projectors that speak PJLink and are reachable over the network from the show machine. Projectors without network control, or with it switched off, report nothing — the Projectors panel simply does not list them, and no amount of configuration in Moonshine will conjure the data. Check the projector's own manual for PJLink support and how to enable it.
Set a projector up for telemetry¶
- Select the projector in the top bar. The button there shows the current projector's name, or Projectors when none is selected; click it to open the projector pane, or hover it and pick from the Select Projector list that drops down.
- Stay on the Settings sub-tab and scroll to the PJLink section.
- Fill in Host with the projector's address on the network, for example
192.168.1.42. - Leave Port empty unless the projector uses a non-standard port — blank means the standard
4352. - Leave Class at
1. Moonshine queries and controls projectors with PJLink class 1 commands either way — the setting is stored with the projector but does not change what is sent. - Fill in Password only if the projector requires authentication. Blank means unauthenticated — the field's own placeholder says so.
The live control strip appears underneath as soon as Host has a value. Until the first successful poll it reads No PJLink telemetry yet — set host above and wait one poll cycle. Polling runs every few seconds, so give it about five.
Clearing Host removes the configuration entirely and stops polling that projector.
If it stays unreachable
PJLink endpoint unreachable. means the show machine could not open a connection to that address. Check the address, that the projector is powered at the mains, that it is on the same network as the show machine, and that PJLink (sometimes listed as network control or standby network) is enabled in the projector's menu.
The health grid¶
The Projectors panel on the Monitor tab shows one card per projector that is reporting. With none configured it reads No projectors reporting.
Each card is headed by a dot — green when the show machine reached the projector at the last poll, red when it did not — followed by the projector's internal ID, with a status badge on the right.
Cards are labelled by ID, not by name
The header on each health card is the projector's internal ID — a short string of letters and digits — not the name you gave it. With one PJLink projector there is nothing to confuse; with several, the panel alone will not tell you which fixture a red card belongs to.
The status badge reads:

Signal and Temp are not live yet
Both always show —, on every projector. The useful health signals today are the status badge, the connection dot, Lamp hours and the fault badges below — read those, and use the projector's own display or web interface for temperature and signal detection.
A card's border turns amber when the projector reports any fault, and red when it is unreachable or reporting an error-level fault.
Fault badges¶
When the projector reports a fault, badges appear at the bottom of its card naming the part and the severity — Fan: warning, Lamp: error, Temp: warning, Cover: error, Filter: warning, Other: error.

warning is the projector saying it is unhappy; error is the projector saying it has a problem now. A warning-level fault during load-in — a filter due for service, say — is something to schedule. An error-level fault is something to fix before the show.
How to read the grid at a glance¶
- Every card
On, green dot, no fault badges: every projector is powered, reachable and not complaining. Disconnectedwhile the image is still on the wall: you have lost the control path, not the video path. The projector keeps showing what it was showing; you just cannot see its telemetry or drive it remotely. Check the network to the projector rather than the video chain.Onbut nothing on the wall: the grid cannot tell you why, because it only sees the projector. Check the projector's input selection in the controls below, the cable, and the display outputs assignment for that projector.Unknownon a reachable projector: the projector answered, but not with a power state Moonshine understands. Its own display is the authority.- Fault badges on several projectors at once: look for a shared cause — the room's air, a power event, a filter service interval that came due across the rig at the same time.
Remote control¶
The control strip lives with the projector's PJLink settings, not on the Monitor tab — select the projector in the top bar and open Settings.

The shutter button is one-way in practice
Moonshine never asks the projector whether its shutter is closed, so that Open / Closed label is not a readback — it rarely flips after you press it, and a second press usually re-sends "blank" rather than restoring the picture. Treat the button as "blank this projector" and restore the image from the projector's own control. Do not build a blackout cue on it.
Notes on behavior worth knowing before you rely on any of this live:
- Buttons disable themselves while a command is in flight, and re-enable when the projector answers. If it never answers, the strip shows
timeoutin red after about eight seconds. Other failures print the projector's own reason — for exampleauthentication errorwhen the password is wrong, orunavailable timewhen the projector refuses a command in its current state. - A power button is disabled when it would be a no-op. While a projector is
Cooling, only On is available; whileWarming, only Off. - As soon as a command finishes, the projector is re-polled instead of waiting out the interval, so the card and the power readout catch up within a second or two.
- Commands go from the show machine to the projector, not from your browser — so remote control works the same from a tablet across the room as from the machine itself.
- If another user holds this projector, the whole settings block is dimmed and the controls do not respond. That is the lock system, not a fault — see Locks.
Rehearse the controls
Press each control once during load-in and watch the actual projector. The readouts describe what the projector answered a few seconds ago, not what it is doing this instant.
What this panel is not¶
- It is not the source of truth for whether Moonshine is sending an image to a projector. That is Display outputs.
- It does not measure the show machine. Frame rate and load live on the Engine performance panel.
- It does not tell you whether the alignment is right — only that the device is reachable, powered, and not reporting a fault.
